In conjuction with our International Understanding Day Carnival, we decided to do a freeze flashmob at our school during recess and also, at One Utama. 45 of us interactors were divided into groups of three and a group of 7 drummers. Each group was given with a piece of blindfold and three cardboards ; one cardboard with a picture and facts about west africa, one cardboard with our IU Day Carnival Poster and another cardboard for the performances and activities. It started out with the group of drummers banging plastic containers, bottles and metals with drums sticks and chop-sticks in a rhythmic and coordinating way. While they were doing that, the other flashmobbers would start to get into groups. Each from every group was blindfolded and that person who was blindfolded would hold the cardboard with the pictures and facts about Africa while the other two would hold the other two cardboards. After freezing for approximately 4 minutes, the drummers would start banging again as a sign to disperse like nothing had happened.

It was amazing to see people stopping by to read what was written on the cardboards especially about the on-going crisis in West Africa and taking pictures of the whole scenario yet it was somehow amusing to see the looks in the faces of the passer-bys ; the smiles on the faces of the people that know what was going on and also, the confusion on the faces of some. There was even one woman who said that, "This is really a good effort. I've never thought that Malaysians would do this, especially high-schoolers".

We truly hope that through this freezemob, people can learn more about West Africa and also, at the same time, have a higher interest to come to our International Understanding Day Carnival and join us to raise funds for the people in West Africa.

Stay tuned for our Freezemob Video :)
