SPCA, Here We Come!
Sunday, 25 March 2012, 04:04
On 25th March 2012, twenty two of us gathered at the Al-safa park eagerly waiting for the bus to arrive. After a quick breakfast, we hopped on the bus and headed to our destination. Within a blink of an eye, we were there! Melissa greeted the person in charge, Ms.Michelle and she suggested that we tour around the place first and help out there in every way possible.

We started off with the cats area, the cats were so adorable and they were all from different breeds respectively. So you can imagine all the different types of cats we saw, what a sight! A few of us went into the cats cages and play with them, they were purring and roaming freely among us.

Then, one of the volunteers there, Mr. Neeson gave us a short briefing and tour around the compound. He explained to us that we should split into smaller groups as the animals are likely to be agitated when they see such a big crowd. Also, he taught us a few useful and educational tips on how to handle and take care of these animals. Moreover, he warned us to be careful with some of the animals as they had been through some bad experiences so they are most likely to counter attack anyone for self defence.

After an educational briefing, we split into two groups, the cat-lovers group and the dog-lovers group respectively. We cleaned up their cages, spread new newpaper sheets, and even gave them a ‘body check-up’.

Some of us also helped out with the jumble sale that was going on, we helped them to pack up the clothes, book and all sorts that they were selling.

Approximately 3 hours later, we had to say our goodbyes. We left the place with such an amazing experience, it was indeed a terrific exposure! We headed to Ours café for lunch before going back and spend some awesome bonding time with each other.
